I’m going to peeve some people off here, but real estate agents are bad at planning. And they’re REALLY bad at planning and curating social media content that is worthwhile. Think about it, you totally know it’s true – you’re only offended because it hurts. It’s okay, I’m feeling some pain from that statement as well. Real estate agents have a difficult time planning and being regimented because that’s sort of the job. It’s always different and your day is constantly evolving. We flit from one fire to the next, and our social media accounts suffer along with everything else. Re-negotiating because of that cut appraisal takes precedence over posting on social media. But should it? Here are my 5 reasons you need to plan your social media and use a tool like The Content Planner.
1.Billions of people use social media, including your clients
According to an article this summer from TechCrunch, Facebook now has 2 Billion monthly users. MONTHLY, hello?! Instagram has 700 million and YouTube is trailing Facebook with 1.5 billion. Again, that’s monthly, people. 84% of real estate clients are starting their search online. When surveyed, many have admitted that they won’t pursue a property further if they can’t find lots of photos and extensive information about it on the internet. And last stat for you that I pulled from a contactually article, 33% of 2017 buyers will be millennials. A generation who was mostly raised on social media and technology. They expect to see successful businesses utilizing some sort of social media – and doing it well.
2. Consistency and organization take plannin
Doing it well means consistently posting content. Like, multiple times a day. That takes organization and planning. You want content that is relevant, timely and that flows together. Social media planning is essential to making sure things flow and make sense. Just posting a random listing here and there, or a pic of the salad you’re eating for lunch isn’t going to cut it for the internet savvy client. They want to see useful information about the community, local hot spots, events, home buying/selling tips, etc.
3. Planning frees you up for other sales activities
Planning and creating content ahead of time will free you up for other sales activities. It takes time and energy to figure out what to post and when to post it. Taking a couple of hours a week to figure it out and get it off your list will be more productive and freeing. You’ll get into a groove, you have all the web windows opened up, you have The Content Planner there next to you and you can just hammer out the content quickly, efficiently and then move the heck on with your week. Also, the 10-15 minutes you might have been wasting throughout the week, just trying to figure out what to post, you can now spend actually being social on social media. You can interact with comments. You can like and build relationship with potential clients online.
4. The Content Planner will help you set goals and track numbers
Using a planning tool like The Content Planner will lend itself to goal setting and tracking numbers. Social media needs to be treated and tracked like a vital part of your marketing. Set goals based on content and fan growth. Track your stats like you do your sales activities. Using The Content Planner will give you space to do this and remind you to check the numbers consistently.
5. Lack of social presence says lack of success to tech savvy clients
Lastly, those who fail to plan should plan to fail. Social media planning is no exception. The majority of real estate social media pages are a mess. There’s clearly no plan. There’s no consistency and to a certain tech savvy generation, that spells a lack of success. They WILL judge you based on your web presence so it’s time to stop failing and start making a plan.
