Travel Tuesday is probably my favorite blogging day. It’s my (not so) guilty pleasure and I love sharing my travel passion with you. So let’s dive right in today. You can go to Prague for free. Maybe. But first let’s chit chat about Scott’s Cheap Flights.
This post is 100% NOT sponsored. I just really love Scott’s Cheap flights and I figure travel enthusiasts like yourselves wanna hear about it. You NEED to hear about it. So here’s the deal.
Scott’s is a service to help find cheap flights. You can subscribe (here) for free and they will send you amazing flight deals from all over the country. But if you’re planning to take a couple of trips or you’re a travel enthusiast, you can pay a small fee and become a premium subscriber. This means you get to edit your notification settings to only include airports that you’d actually use. So for us, we have airports in the Midwest area, and all over the South near our Florida home. Typically you’ll receive 2-3 emails per day with amazing flight deals. But it’s not a click here and buy type of situation. There’s a little work involved.
First, you love the deal and decide, YES, Let’s GO!
Next, you use google flights. (Video Instructions below if you’re a visual type of learner.) Scott will include a link for you in the email. Click that. Instantly be ushered into the Google flight zone. Here is where the real magic happens. You can put in ANY and ALL airports you’re willing to fly from. You just need to know the airport codes. (O’Hare = ORD, Atlanta = ATL, Orlando = MCO, etc.) You can work the same magic on the TO airport. If you have more than one that would be acceptable, type them in and separate with a comma.
Third, take a sip of your coffee and bear with me. This is where some people get lost, but it’s SO worth it if you can get this step correct. In the date fields, you need to estimate the length of time you’d like to be gone. For example, if I’m considering a week-long trip to the Caribbean in say, February, then I’d put Feb 13-20th in the date fields. It’s just a starting place. The dates won’t be exact, the point here is the length of the trip needs to be pretty exact. Once you’ve done that, you’re ready for the magic.
Fourth, click on the FIRST date box. Just click on the date you typed and wait for a drop down calendar to appear. Give it some time, and eventually you’ll see dollar amounts below each and every day. This is how you find the best deal. The cheapest days will be highlighted in green. And you’ll see arrows on the side of the calendar box where you can search months ahead, or behind, to find your perfect (low) priced flight.
Finally, click on the dates you’re settling on and you’ll see a list of airlines and flight times below. To book that amazing deal, just click on it and you’ll be taken to the booking options for that airline. If you’re not quite ready to book, you can set up an alert right there on google flights, and get notified when prices change.
It’s easy, peasy and will have you jetting the world in no time! You don’t technically NEED Scott’s to find great deals. You can just use google flights to search. However, the flight prices fluctuate and dip at any given moment and that’s how Scott’s helps. They’ll alert you when it’s prime purchasing time.
