When I owned my bakery and was doing ALL the wedding cakes, I always told people not to judge the cake before it was totally finished. It’s amazing how they go through an “ugly” phase. The “awkward teenage years”, if you will, where things are growing, being added, but you can’t quite understand the full picture yet so it looks down right goofy sometimes. My project house is in that phase right now. Looks flippin’ weird. This photo above is the original and I keep looking at it, thinking… this was better than where I’m at now. Then I mutter to myself something about my vision and that I know what it’ll look like when done and I know I’m making the right decisions. I know it. I KNOW IT! (repeat it enough times and maybe it becomes true?) I can only hope.
My internet is so awful right now that I can’t even upload the awkward teenage years photo of the project house for you to judge for yourself – either that or it’s just too awkward and the internet is saving you from having to view this weird looking house. Huh. Hadn’t thought of that until just now. Regardless, my apologies. An updated photo will have to wait. At this point I’m not even sure I have enough internet juice to save what I’ve written. Downfall of living in the woods with limited internet providers available.
A quick recap of what’s been done at the project house: I painted all the walls, removed all blinds and random nails from walls/windows, filled all nail holes, caulked cracks in window trim and floor baseboards, removed odd trim from kitchen cabinets, took off some cabinet doors and filled in holes, caulked gaps, cleaned cabinets, painted all interior doors and the front door and pulled out all carpet and staples.
What’s on the docket for this week is to paint the kitchen cabinetry, order new hardware for the cabinets, change out the kitchen ceiling fan, paint the ceilings throughout, pry up some odd extra pieces of floor base, get 7 layers (yeah, 7 layers) of flooring up from kitchen and bathroom (hired someone for that job) and then if time permits, paint all window trim.
On that note, I have things to do, y’all and I better get at it. My first stop today is to buy some attachments for my new Dewalt multi-tool. I need to grind down some nails that can’t be removed and I hear the multi-tool is the thing for the job.
Are you planning any home improvement projects of your own? Leave me a comment and let me know. If you are, check out a few of my favorite products that I’ve used on the project house so far. The DAP plastic hole filler is kind of my hero product of the week, along with the drill brush set – I’ll be showing how to use these to deep clean over at the project house this week or next!
