I have made some questionable choices in my life. Paint choices, that is. So many bad choices (can you say lime green paired with butter yellow???? Like, what?!) that the older I have gotten, the more fearful of actually picking a paint color I have become.
When I started the fishing cottage renovation I knew I wanted my paint colors to be light and airy. I definitely wanted white walls and cabinetry – it’s a small space and needs the white to keep it bright and open feeling. But I also had an idea to do something a little different – like paint the trim a blue/green color and the doors a slightly darker shade. I went back and forth on this for soooo long. (Lime green and butter yellow, remember?) My past paint sins loomed heavy on my mind and I just wasn’t ready to commit.
I had purchased a beautiful, beautiful can of exterior paint a few years ago after seeing it on a blogger’s front door. It was a stunning blue/green hue and looked good/different in all lighting. It especially seems to shine with brass/gold fixtures which I knew I wanted to use at the project house. I found this dusty old can of paint that had never been opened and decided it was now or never. Then I used the Benjamin Moore color matcher to find the door shade and then a hue that was a few shades lighter for the trim – which is how I landed upon Heavenly Blue #709.
I think my lime green/butter yellow faux pas has officially been redeemed. I can now go back to choosing colors with confidence.
What do you think about the door/trim combo? I’m just super in love with this and can’t wait to see it finished! Leave me a comment and let me know if you’re taking on any summer paint projects yourself.
Cheers!
Stacey
Here are a few of my favorite paint products below. These Zibra triangle brushes are my absolute favorite. I am able to do all our trim without taping and get a pretty clean line! I have these in every size. Zibra brushes are so good. I also use the Bercom paint pail to carry around with me for trim work. It’s the perfect size and the disposable liners make clean-up a breeze. I’ve been using these for a few years and won’t take on a project without them. Last but not least, the mixing lid from LaRue will make your paint life about 20 times easier – just make the $7.00 purchase, you’ll love this thing.
