In celebration of our daughter’s 6th birthday this week we are dedicating a post a day to her. If it weren’t for Covid-19 we would be celebrating this b-day with her in person here at home, but we still haven’t heard when they’re going to allow us to come to China and pick up our kiddos. There are over 1,000 families currently waiting to travel for their China adoptions. I knew this day was approaching and it was going to bum Dave and I out. To be honest, I’ve been bummed all Summer but have just thrown myself into our new Airbnb projects, finishing up our basement and then the big move to our new lake home. I’ve been grateful for all the distractions! But birthday week is here, and we are staying as upbeat as possible. As soon as we move into the new house in September, we are going to start working on her bedroom so I put together a little mood board and a color palette. Our whole house is going to have a lot of white, green/teal (moody emerald and dark teal) some black and then some warm wood accents. We are going in a direction that we call “moody Caribbean.” It’s not a thing, but it will be when Dave and I are done.
I wanted to keep her bedroom sort of simple, so as not to overwhelm her. We want to do white walls, probably shiplap on one wall, bamboo/cane nightstands, a colored metal bed, some fun tropical wall decor, something with her name on the wall (probably a DIY project) and a reading nook.
If you are raising a 4-7 yr old and have any ideas of what you think a kids bedroom needs, I’d love to hear your suggestions! Please leave me a comment on this post and share your ideas. Sometimes you don’t know what you don’t know… and I definitely don’t know what 6 yr old girls NEED in their dream bedrooms. Are you doing any bedroom remodel projects this year?
